Restrictions and Advice on Sailing and Yachting Days
Sailing days are usually available throughout Spring and Summer, but usually not in Winter due to weather conditions. We always recommend booking 6-8 weeks in advance to avoid disappointment.
We offer sailing lessons, yachting trips, vintage barge cruises, and sailing experiences across the UK at gorgeous locations. Find out more about our dedicated sailing experiences here.
Sailing with Children
Each sailing experience has a minimum age restriction, which varies depending on the location as well as the type of experience. For example, yacht sailing for two is available for children from ages 5 and up, whilst most other sailing events have a minimum age of 12.
For anyone under the age of 16, parental permission must be provided, or a paying adult may need to accompany them. This will depend on the unique experience day you participate in, so please do check beforehand.
There is rarely an upper age limit, but a certain level of fitness may be required. The ability to swim may be required, and you will need to be able to get in the boat. However, this is a popular adventure day with all ages so this shouldn't be a problem.
Clothing
Flat soled shoes are highly recommended so that you can walk on the boat safely, and to protect it from damage as well. Since you can be hands on and help sail in some cases, you'll want to have shoes with good grip.
Comfortable and warm clothing is highly recommended. Wearing layers is a good idea as it can get windy out at sea. Even in colder weather, wearing sunscreen is advised to protect you from the sun reflecting off of the sea.
Swimming may be possible with some sailing or yachting experiences, although you should ask about this when booking to be sure. If this is the case, take swimwear and a towel for your dip in the big blue.
Facilities
Some locations providing sailing and yachting days have catering facilities onsite or nearby, such as cafes and restaurants. Not all locations have these facilities though so please check beforehand to plan your day perfectly.
If swimming is allowed on the experience day, then the location may have showers and changing facilities which you are free to use.
One or two sites even have activities on offer for friends and family to enjoy, including mini golf, cycle hire, and boat rides!
Spectators are usually allowed, however in many cases the location will not allow for great views of the sailing. It is recommended alternative activities are planned for them. Photography is welcomed.
